Providing to make up for styling deficiencies

The 420 M Sport Coupe from BMW is here, and even though, its style might not appeal to you that much, you will like the driving appeal. It has arrived in the UK in all five derivatives, and you will get a chance soon, if not already, to decide whether you like its look or not.

And, if you think, like many of us, that the styling is not good enough, or at least not what it should have been, you will wonder like many, what the company is providing to make up for styling deficiencies. We are saying this with caution, because we have tested this vehicle, and we think the only reason why it looks the way it does is so you can involve it in a light frontal collision. The 356bhp M440i xDrive is the range-topper and the only multi-cylinder option. If you want your diesel vehicles to have more than four cylinders, you should wait, as this year, you will also be provided with 430d and M440d options.

If you can convince yourself to pay this much for this car, you should get it. But, you should know that the price can be justified when you look at other similar vehicles.

If are looking for affordable four-cylinder options, the 179bhp 420i and 243bhp 430i turbocharged petrol are ideal for you. But, you should know that they won’t have the new 48V mild-hybrid assistance set-up, as it comes with only the diesel and the six-pot petrol. We can’t say for sure why this is, but it for sure widens the real-world fuel efficiency of BMW diesel and petrol, which has always been there. If we talk about the WLTP combined running economy of a new 420i and 420d, around 20mpg is the difference, which makes us think whether or not the company is ready to shift to petrol power for their next German coupe.
