Prototypes are quite similar to the models

It doesn’t happen very often that you get to see a vehicle without disguise before its official unveiling, but this time you get, well, kind of. The new Mercedes-Benz SL roadster is to be launched in a few months, but we have spotted it in less disguise.

The roadster that’s said to be a rival of the Porsche 911 Cabriolet, will be unwrapped in summers and launched in the market at the end of the year. The vehicles come with hybridized straight-six and V8 engine options as well, and recent shots show the different individual models. The entry-level hybrid variant is probably the prototype with annular exhaust outlets, most likely the SL 450 EQ Boost. And, the other vehicle with a raised rear spoiler mark and more aggressive pipes might be the top-rung SL 63 AMG.

The prototypes are quite similar to the models shown by the Mercedes last year through images. In the latest images, the vehicle’s roof can be seen. Of course, more will be known when it’s officially revealed, or we will see more undisguised pictures.

The removable roof is visible, but we still can’t tell what material is used. Somewhat inspired by the firm’s motorsport roots, the new model will be a lighter, faster, and more engaging version of the vehicle. This is the first time that AMG is overseeing the development of SL. He also said that the new model will be available only as a roadster, just like the previous model, and it will available for sale in the UK by the end of 2021.

It was revealed last year by then-AMG boss Tobias Moers that the SL will be aligned with the next AMG GT as it goes on sale this year. Both company’s shared platform known as the Modular Sports Architecture has been used to increase the economies of scale.
